Does your fire department need equipment? The 2018 Volunteer Fire Assistance Program (VFA) available from the Nebraska Forest Service provides up to 50% cost share for Nebraska communities with a population of 10,000 or less. If qualified, a community may receive funds toward the purchase of 2-way radios, protective clothing, breathing apparatus, and/or firefighting equipment. According to the website, a community project to provide smoke detectors for rural residences may also qualify.
LARM members who haven't applied for the Lean on LARM Safety Grant may want to use that $500 for the matching cost share funds.
Risk management is a priority of LARM and its members. We encourage communities to use every available resource to prevent risk or reduce damage and injury in the event of a disaster. Contact Dave Bos, LARM Loss Control Manager, for more information about risk management.
Here's the link to the Volunteer Fire Department grant - applications are due May 25, 2018. Email Diane Becker at diane.becker@larmpool.org if you need help with the application.
