Welcome to new LARM Board Member Sharon Powell!

Sharon Powell, Village of Utica Board President, is one of the newest LARM Board members, who began their three-year term on January 1, 2025.

A native of Lincoln, Sharon worked in insurance for many years before becoming a full-time mom when her first-born child had severe medical needs requiring frequent trips to therapy and doctor appointments. She was appointed to serve as a Village Trustee for the Village of Utica in 2019 and has since been elected to serve in that capacity, leading the board as President as of 2023.

Sharon’s family includes her significant other, Shane; her two sons, Axton and Ryker; and their German Shepherd puppy, Sascha. She said she enjoys participating in weekly Bible study groups, exercising, reading, and her new challenge of making sourdough bread.

Sharon said she has seen how LARM has helped the community of Utica. “Utica has unfortunately been hit with multiple hailstorms, two of which I have personally experienced, and every step of the way, LARM was there ready to help us get our paperwork moving, allowing repairs to be started and payments out so we could pay our contractors in a very timely manner. When you are an elected official and a storm of that magnitude comes through, you're not only worried about restoring your community, but you also have to worry about your own home and losses. It took much of the headache and stress off of us, and we are incredibly thankful knowing LARM has our backs.”

She added that LARM staff readily answer any insurance questions they have and she appreciates the Lean on LARM Safety Grants that are available to the community. “LARM’s safety articles ensure we’ve done the checks and balances so that we can protect our community as much as possible. I am incredibly honored and excited to accept this new role to learn more about LARM and how I may serve my community better in my current role.”
